The Guru's staff

The Guru's staff is the Guru's primary weapon and serves as a focus for his Dreamtime powers. It is made up of his staff and Moon Stone and allows him to control guards, camouflage himself into pieces of scenery (like a bush or wheel of cheese, depending on the location) and connect individuals' minds, as done between the Panda King and Sly Cooper.[1] He also uses it to communicate with other members of the Cooper Gang in lieu of a binocucom.

History

The staff was stolen by the Australian miners in "Rumble Down Under," broken into the two pieces, with both pieces stashed into their own safes in the job "Dark Caves." Sly Cooper was recruited to collect the pieces, after which the Guru became a member of the Cooper Gang.

At some point in time after Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, the staff was again broken, and the Moon Stone portion became the treasure "The Guru's Staff Piece" in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. This would prevent the player from taking half of all damage.

Use

The staff is used either passively or aggressively. Should the player sneak up behind an enemy as the Guru, they can jump and press circle to latch on to the guard's back. The Guru can then control the direction the guard runs and can attack using square. Pressing x causes the guard to jump, and pressing triangle causes the Guru to detach from the guard, forcing it to run for a long distance or until it crashes into something.

Pressing and holding l1 will make the Guru swing the staff and chant, and within a few seconds, he will be transformed into one of three items, depending on his surroundings. This can be used to disguise the Guru from passing guards and, unlike Shadow Power or Sly Cooper's disguises, will trick guards that have already seen him.
