Stomp is a technique that Murray uses to lift unsuspecting enemies or objects into the air for him to carry. It first appeared in Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and has since reappeared in Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

Description

By pressing circle while standing on the ground, Murray will stomp his foot, sending a pink shockwave outward. The closest object or knocked out enemy within range will be sent up into the air and into Murray's hands.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves

While an object or guard is in his grasp, Murray can walk around with them, throw them by pressing square or circle, slam them into the ground by pressing triangle, sprint with them, or single jump with them (the latter two requires the Atlas Strength power-up from ThiefNet). The slam will instantly kill a carried guard.

Murray can also pick up enemies without knocking them out first by performing the Juggle Grab; this is done by uppercutting them with triangle before pressing circle to grab them from the air. The Juggle Grab has to be used stealthily on flashlight guards, but can be used at any time on rooftop guards.

There are several ways to alert guards in the vicinity to Murray's position with the stomp move. The stomp itself will alert anyone nearby, but carried guards will also audibly struggle and draw attention. A thrown object or guard will draw attention near the point of impact; guards that survive being thrown will be knocked unconscious for a few moments before pursuing Murray, which can alert more guards to his position. The slam move will also garner attention nearby, with the range of the noise being farther than the stomp.

Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves

The stomp move functions in much the same way in Sly 3 as it did before, but with a few changes. Unlike in Sly 2, where the stomp could be performed at any time, Murray can only stomp the ground when close enough to an object or stunned enemy to pick up. Murray also gained the ability to shake money out of guards in his grasp by pressing circle, which replaces the input's throwing function from the previous game.

Because of the resilience of the flashlight guards in Sly 3, Murray cannot instantly kill a flashlight guard with the slam move unless the guard has taken enough damage first. The guard will instead be knocked unconscious for a few moments before pursuing Murray.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

The stomp move received more alterations in Thieves in Time. Murray can no longer perform the Juggle Grab, but he can now use the stomp to pick up guards without first knocking them out; flashlight guards can only be picked up when Murray is out of combat. As in Sly 2, the stomp can be freely performed at any time, and flashlight guards will instantly die to the slam move. In addition, Murray can now single jump with an object or rooftop guard by default, and can even slam them into the ground while jumping. Nearby guards will no longer hear a carried guard's audible struggling or the impact of the slam move.

While Murray still cannot sprint while carrying something by default, he now has to purchase the Light as a Feather power-up to be able to do so. He also can no longer shake loot out of guards by default, instead requiring the Looty Shake power-up to be able to do so.

The stomp can be further upgraded via ThiefNet into the Mega Stomp, giving it increased range.
