The Lumberjack Games were a yearly competition hosted by Jean Bison at his lumber camp in Canada. Bison himself was the undisputed champion of the event, having won every year until he was defeated by the Cooper Gang.

History

Them Clockwerk talons will bring 'em in. The Lumberjack Games are gonna be a hoedown this year, yes sir, they will!
― Bison believes the talons will attract more competitors.[src]

During the events of Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Bison was looking to attract more participants and therefore decided to put the Clockwerk talons up as a trophy. The gang, who were on a quest to steal the Clockwerk parts, took part in the competition to retrieve the talons.

To prepare for the games, the gang first acquired a log chopping guide, which Sly freed from a block of ice,[1] as they believed it would be useful for the log chopping event. However, after reading through the book, it became clear that they were not skilled enough to beat Bison at his own game, meaning they would need to cheat. Their next step in preparing for the games was acquiring an eagle egg,[2] which they would use against Bison during the log chopping event.

During the competition, the gang knew they stood no chance of winning due to the fear Bison instilled in the judges. Therefore, they planned to sabotage Bison's performances to such a degree that the verdict would have to be negative. Murray took part in power log chopping and received a perfect score. On Bison's turn, Bentley placed the eagle egg beneath his trousers, allowing an eagle to swoop down and throw off his axe swing. Sly participated in the ice wall climb and likewise performed perfectly, while on Bison's attempt, Murray pulled him down using grappling hooks. Finally, Bentley represented the gang in log rolling and received their third score of perfect 10s for his team.

The new judges declare Bison a loser.

Since Bison still had the judges intimidated, the gang decided they needed to get rid of the three judges and take their place at the panel so that they could give Bison a losing score. Though they managed to succeed, Bison saw through their disguises. Upset at losing, Bison struck a powerful blow to their heads with the talons and subsequently imprisoned them in the sawmill's control center.[3] Following these events, the Lumberjack Games were put on hiatus indefinitely.

Rounds

The Lumberjack Games consisted of three parts: power log chopping, ice wall climbing, and log rolling.

Power log chopping

For the power log chopping event, competitors would wield an axe and have to chop a log down the middle, using precise timing. Each hit had to be perfect, or points would be lost.

Ice wall climb

For the ice wall climb event, competitors would be given a limited amount of time to scale to the top of a large ice wall plagued with hooks, some of which were attached to electric currents.

Log rolling

For the log rolling event, competitors would need to balance themselves on three rolling logs that periodically sink and float back up.
